Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and news reporter with WPDE-TV. She then worked as a morning reporter and anchor at WCBD TV. O'Dell's articles in Charleston, about how the Charleston police handled DUI cases with leniency resulted in an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division. This investigation led to a more strict direction for state officials. According to the Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell with an award for the Best Report of the year Award to the entire South Carolina media. After her time in Charleston O'Dell served as co-anchor and investigative reporter for NBC's Miami station WTVJ-TV prior to joining Access Hollywood as a weekend anchor and a weekday reporter. She also works as an anchor on Dateline NBC and NBC News Today. She co-hosted several of pre-show arrivals to The Emmys as well as The Golden Globe Awards. Other co-hosting credits include Miss USA, the Miss USA pageant, and Miss Universe.
